7-Propolis.jpg

Propolis is bee glue made when the honey bees collect resin from trees and plants. The bees use it for sealing unwanted open spaces in their hive.  Propolis can be collected by setting a plastic sheet with small slits in it on top of the hive. The bees use propolis to seal out the unwanted light the trap let in. When full, the traps are taken off the hives and placed in the freezer over night. Upon removing from the freezer, the previously sticky propolis can be easily knocked off and collected for use

Just as with other bee products, propolis is known to have great health benefits. Propolis boosts the immune system and is antifungal and antibacterial. It can be taken as a supplement and is also used in cosmetics. We have just begun collecting propolis and should have some available soon.
